Celebrating Color
Walking home on Friday, I saw the first glimmer of Spring: a single bud on a barren brown tree branch unfurled into a tiny green leaf. Over the weekend we rode our bikes in the park and saw crowds lingering in the afternoon sun on St Patrick's Day. This Thursday India celebrates Holi - the festival of color and love. All around us, the world shouts that the cold, dark months are behind and the season of sun and color is about to begin.
To anyone familiar with Saskia's designs, color lies at the heart of all she creates. From the rainbow of Mali Weds to the electric green of Petite Chrysoprase to the powerful, rich blue of Little Lapis, color and contrast inform the whole line.
Just like the tulips that color the Dutch fields in early spring, jewelry adds accent to the background. For those of us New Yorkers who habitually wear our uniforms of black and grey, the simple addition of one vibrant necklace, or a pair of glimmeringly colorful earrings tells the world, "I'm here!"
If you are someone - like Saskia - for whom color is essential, this is the perfect time to play with your palate. Maybe add a little turquoise, or perhaps mix some colors together. Yellow is a color not often worn, but in the right tone just yells to be seen. Chalcedony is a wonderful stone for yellow as you see in our Sunburst. With just a hint of mustard, this color looks amazing with a turquoise top.
Whether you find something new to add to your wardrobe or simply dig through the back of your closet for long lost friends, this week made sure to celebrate the spring with color!
