When the pandemic shuttered my Brooklyn and Manhattan jewelry stores for much of 2020 (one closed permanently), I wanted to create something to help people connect and create while at home. I designed a collection of DIY beading kits for kids and adults featuring the same high-quality materials I use in my own designs. Soon I was hearing from customers of all ages who were excited to say, “I made this!”
The sustainably made and ethically designed DIY kits include materials like recycled Indonesian glass (Looking Glass kit) and West African lost wax brass (Girls Night In kit). For kids, DIY kits are also made with eco-friendly materials like howlite beads (Charmed kit) and freshwater pearls (Pretty in Pearls kit)––no cheap plastic beads bound for the landfill.
As a Brooklyn jewelry designer, I proudly design every kit in my Industry City Maker’s Guild studio. From handmade jewelry to DIY kits, community and connection through creativity is at the heart of every SASKIA design.
