Adding Color to Your Wardrobe
It seems inescapable this time of year; everyone forgets how to add color into their wardrobe. The plague of dark clothing is everywhere, especially here in New York. How many times have you seen a train pass by with a sea of black coats, umbrellas and hats whooshing past you. Maybe you notice the occasional burst of red or yellow, but they’re few and far between.
Is your definition of adding color to your wardrobe a brown top or gray slacks? That’s totally fine, and you’re in the majority, but we think the best way to keep your flare and boldness going throughout the wintertime is by accessorizing underneath that huge warm coat. It might seem out of your comfort zone to pile on color in your clothing, but what better way to brighten up a tonal outfit than with a vibrant accessory. We can almost guarantee compliments for your radiant pieces. You can even keep the minimalist style going, and then add some color with a brightly colored necklace or layer of necklaces. A good post on the minimalist style is Minimalist Closet: Practice Minimalism with Your Wardrobe .
We’re all guilty of saving outfits for a another time, and one of the most common versions of this is saving something bright for warmer months. Saskia used to keep a section of her wardrobe separate from the rest with the thought that she’d wear her more bold outfits once she moved to New York. After being here for so many years she’s learned that there’s no good or bad time to wear anything, you should wear what you want when you want. If your heart is telling you to pack on the color do it! And if you’re a bit hesitant to try, some bright jewelry is a great place to start.
